Kitsilano house gutted by fire was used as short-term rental

A Vancouver woman was relaxing in her home on Thursday morning when she realized she couldn't see anything out the window of her apartment on MacDonald Street and West Third Avenue.

There have been several forest fires in BC this summer, which had the city covered in smoke. However, she was sure this was something else.

The home next door was on fire, and several hours later she was interviewed while she watched the Vancouver Fire Department fight the fire.

She is very thankful for how quickly the fire department arrived - they arrived before any flames were noticeable. However, she is not sure who called in.

She originally thought the fire was contained, but suddenly she saw the fire begin to spread and the flames were hitting her house. The firefighters reportedly created a wall of water between the two buildings to prevent the fire from spreading.

Thankfully, no one was in the house when the fire started. The house is for sale and was used as an Airbnb style rental for the past few months.
